The Woman’s Club of Colorado Springs held An Impactful Luncheon to benefit Restore Innocence and spread hope to survivors of human trafficking on February 26, 2020 at Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care. Attendees learned about the issue of human trafficking through a presentation by Restore Innocence, and enjoyed a Fair Trade luncheon prepared by WCCS members.

After lunch everyone pitched in to fill Restoration Bags with brand new items such as clothing, toiletries, and more for survivors of human trafficking. Restore Innocence receives hundreds of requests from the FBI, police departments, Homeland Security and State Patrol for these bags each year. They are sent to law enforcement agencies across the country to be given to survivors upon rescue. The items for the bags were furnished by those attending the luncheon.

Survivors of human trafficking typically only have the clothes that they are wearing when they are rescued, and that clothing is often confiscated as evidence. These backpacks bring much needed comfort and dignity to the survivors. They also help build trust, give hope, and bridge the gap between survivors and law enforcement.

Through the generosity of those attending the luncheon, we were able to complete 38 Restoration Bags for young ladies ages 13 and up. We also received cash donations for Restore Innocence and money for shipping the backpacks. The leftover supplies were gifted to Restore Innocence, giving them a good start on even more bags.
