The Woman’s Club of Colorado Springs hosted A Fulfilling Luncheon on February 20, 2019.
Everyone brought in items to fill Restoration Bags for Restore Innocence. Restoration Bags are backpacks filled with brand new items. They are sent to law enforcement agencies across the country to be given to victims of human trafficking upon rescue. Restore Innocence receives hundreds of requests from the FBI, police departments, Homeland Security and State Patrol for these bags each year.
The delicious lunch, prepared by WCCS members, was a Fair Trade soup, salad and dessert buffet.
Lindy Havens, Executive Director of Restore Innocence, spoke at the luncheon about the mission of Restore Innocence, “to aid victims of human trafficking in the rescue, restoration and reintegration process by addressing their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.”
Thanks to the generosity of those attending the luncheon, we were able to complete 38 Restoration Bags. With the remaining items and cash donations collected, Restore Innocence will be able to complete and ship even more bags.
The final service project for the afternoon was stuffing and sewing comfort pillows. These pillows are delivered to hospitals and clinics throughout the city and given to breast cancer patients. They help ease pain and are often used under the arm, between the chest and seat belt, and for comfortable support in bed.
With the efforts of everyone participating, we were able to complete 142 pillows!
Thank you to everyone for making this such a successful and A Fulfilling Luncheon!
